Your new role

The Advocacy Coordinator role will play a pivotal role in driving SHM’s advocacy agenda and in building organisational advocacy capability.  Reporting to Head of Communication, Marketing & Advocacy the role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to influence government policies, sector practise and community attitudes as outlined in Strategy 2030. The purpose of this position is to enable SHM to influence fairer and more inclusive service systems.

Your day-to-day

  • Lead the development and delivery of SHM’s advocacy strategy in alignment with Strategy 2030.
  • Monitor and analyse policy developments, producing briefs and submissions on key issues.
  • Build strong relationships with government, sector partners, and peak bodies to advance SHM’s advocacy goals.
  • Develop public campaigns and events that influence community attitudes and raise awareness.
  • Embed lived experience and cross-organisational collaboration into all advocacy activities.

We're looking for

  • Is a systems thinker with a strong understanding of the social determinants of inequity and the structures that perpetuate them.
  • Has demonstrated experience developing and delivering advocacy campaigns in complex political environments.
  • Brings well-developed networks and expertise in government relations, communications, or public policy.
  • Excels at managing multiple projects with strong planning, attention to detail, and adaptability.
  • Communicates effectively and collaborates with diverse stakeholders, with a strong alignment to SHM’s values.

  • Hourly rate of $50.76 - $53.06 + superannuation (dependent on experience & qualifications)
