Your new role

As a Chef in our Meals Program at Sacred Heart Central, you’ll play a key role in providing nutritious meals to people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

Each day, you’ll help prepare and serve approximately 300 meals, ensuring our Meals Program runs smoothly and maintains a warm, welcoming environment for all. You’ll also work closely with volunteers, donors, and Sacred Heart Mission staff to make a lasting impact in our community.

Your day-to-day

  • Assisting in preparing and serving breakfast and lunch daily, approximately 300 meals per day. 
  • Supporting the planning and coordination of weekly menus.
  • Ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met.
  • Supervising and supporting volunteers and kitchen assistants.
  • Managing food deliveries and donations effectively.
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive, and respectful kitchen culture.

We're looking for

  • A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (essential).
  • Experience as a Chef in bulk cooking or catering. 
  • A proven ability to manage the kitchen environment in a safe and responsible manner. 
  • A commitment to working compassionately with people facing disadvantage.

You can look forward to

  • Working within a committed team of kitchen assistants, volunteers and wider services team. 
  • Early morning and early finishes (approximately 2:30pm). 
  • Making a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness and social disadvantage.
  • $29.89 rate per hour + casual loading of 25%. 
  • Salary packaging benefits – up to $15,990 tax-free for expenses like rent, dining, and holidays.
