Your new role

The Rooming House Plus Program (RHPP) by Sacred Heart Mission (SHM) offers long-term accommodation and support to 66 residents with a history of homelessness and complex needs. Situated in a vibrant six-story apartment block, the program focuses on helping residents build life skills and foster community connections.

We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Social Inclusion Worker to join our RHPP team for 30.4 hours per week. You'll harness your creative flair to lead art therapy sessions that ignite residents' imaginations and nurture their well-being. This role is pivotal in helping residents develop the skills and networks needed to thrive in the broader community and live fulfilling lives.

Your day-to-day

Your day-to-day will be a canvas for your creativity, from guiding residents in expressive art sessions to orchestrating engaging community outings and skill-building workshops. We're looking for someone with a quirky creative spirit, ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve.

  • Facilitate individual and group art therapy sessions, encouraging residents to express themselves creatively and engage in meaningful activities.
  • Provide support and guidance during sessions, fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Identify any emerging issues or opportunities for further support.
  • Supervise and support volunteers, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Encourage residents to participate and connect with the broader local communities.

We're looking for

  • A strong commitment to helping individuals overcome social disadvantage, with a genuine desire to make a positive impact in their lives.
  • Experience in delivering social inclusion programs and facilitating art therapy sessions.
  • Capable of effectively interacting with residents, staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, providing support and guidance to colleagues and volunteers.
  • Skilled in engaging with clients from diverse backgrounds, with a sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to handle challenging behaviors professionally.
  • Ability to develop and implement creative solutions to enhance social inclusion and resident engagement.
